Interactive, entertaining 1 to 1½ hour lectures with practical parenting tips and tricks. Your audience of parents will be engaged and uplifted knowing they can make a difference ​in their relationships with their children ​as soon as they walk out of the presentation.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Elementary Parents


Mary incorporates age-appropriate examples depending on the audience in this lecture.

• Learn how we currently talk to our kids ~ are we a "Helicopter", "Drill Sergeant", or a "Consultant"?

• How do our behaviors affect our ability to communicate with them?

• What do we actually communicate when we are interacting with our kids - competence or incompetence?

• Are we being helpful or interfering?

• When are the best times to communicate with our kids?

• When can we up the odds that our efforts will really be heard and understood?

• When can we arrange for their brains to be ready to listen to us?

Middle and High School Parents

In this lecture, we work through ideas to break the cycles of anger in our homes that are so easily set of by the kids we love so much.

• What happens in our brains when we get angry at our kids and what things triger our anger on a regular basis.

• How to create support systems in your house to defuse anger using a three-step approach.

• How to use Family Meetings to encourage healthy communication to alleviate the triggers for our anger.

• Responsibility – how we can get them to “own” their stuff!

• When should we stop managing grades and homework for our kids?

• What happens when we do too much for our kids?

• How can we stop ourselves from interfering with their growth?

• What are affordable mistakes we can let our kids learn from?

• How can mistakes build resilience?

All Ages


Learn when and how to deal with family conflict and have consequences for sibling conflicts and other poor behaviors that work!

• What do we do vs. what SHOULD we do when siblings fight

• Learn tips for keeping calm while “natural consequences” do the hard work for you

• What types of consequences work? What doesn’t work?

• When to get involved and when to let kids fight it out

• What to do when there are no effective consequences available

• When separating siblings works and when it doesn’t work

3rd through 8th Grade Parents


In this lecture . . .

• Learn the plusses and minuses of electronics - smartphones, gaming, texting, apps, YouTube

• Ideas on setting up responsible electronics in your home

• What happens when things get out of control?

• Sexting and porn - what you should know as a parent

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Toddler and Elementary Parents


Tantrums can be so draining and disruptive to a happy family life!

In this seminar learn to tame the tantrums by understanding:

• Learn the why and what behind the emotions of tantrums

• Understand what you can do as a parent during the tantrum to help calm the situation

• Figure out how to set up a "calm down" location using input from your child to make a safe, secure and loving environment for them when their emotions take over

• Learn how to brainstorm with your kids after a meltdown using one-on-one time with them or having family meetings to help identify key triggers for tantrums

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Teachers and School Staff


Mary provides her unique perspective for incorporating parenting techniques in the classroom and on the playground.
